My Desk Set-Up

As an Online Teacher, I spend lots of time at my desk and I've had my fair share of back pain, wrist ache and tech issues!

Over the years, I have optimised my desk set-up and hardware so that I am comfortable sitting at my desk and my students can see and hear me clearly.

Android Laptop

HP Envy

When choosing a laptop, you ideally want to get a high-processing speed of i7 or above so that your video speed gives you good quality. However, you also don't need to break the bank! I chose an HP Envy which I have had for two years now and it has been excellent.

Monitor

HP Monitor

I invested in a monitor about 2 years ago and haven't looked back since! It makes it easier for me to read the screen and also minimises neck aches since it is in line with my eyes.

Microphone

Noise Cancelling Microphone

I love this microphone since I hate wearing headsets and this makes my voice sound sharp. It also has in-built noise-cancelling so that my students don't hear my kids yelling in the background when I teach.

Webcam

Get a Clear Image

Want a crystal clear image? Upgrade your laptop's webcam with this bad boy! It's a 4K megapixel webcam and it will make your image beautiful!

Light

With Adjustable Settings

One of the major requirements that companies ask for is 'good lighting'. For large group classes, trial classes or recording introduction videos, I always put on this light to make sure my face is bright and visible to students to make the best impression. I typically adjust the setting for a medium glow so that I don't burn my eyes out from the glare!

Wrist Support

Prevent Wrist Pain

After visiting my doctor's for wrist ache, he suggested that I invested in an Ergonomic Wrist Support. The $9.99 I spent on this set at the time was well worth the investment to stop my aching wrists.

Wireless Mouse

Ditch the Wire

Going wireless was a game-changer for me! I used to hate how the wire used to get in the way of things. Just make sure you have a spare battery for it close by in case it decides to stop working mid-lesson haha!

Mouse Mat

It's SOOO Pretty!

This cute mouse mat was on sale for $3.99 when I got it- about the price of a coffee. It adds a bit of glamour to my desk and helps to keep my mouse control smooth for lessons.

Foot Rest

Save Your Lower Back

This has helped my lower back a ton! I love it for easing pressure on my back, knees and feet. It makes my desk SO comfy to sit at. I mostly teach without shoes, so the squishy soft feeling under my feet is the best.

Hard Drive

1TB of Storage

I invested in a 1TB sized hard drive about 10 years ago and I still have the same one! It's loaded with lots of lessons, recordings and photos. I figured having a hard drive is cheaper in the long run compared to paying for monthly cloud storage or a larger memory-sized laptop. Keeping your laptop free from large files will also help to improve the speed of your computer.

USB Extension

x4 Extra Ports

With extra gadgets, you might need to get an extension. I have this one which lets me keep all of my hardware plugged in. I label them all so that I don't get confused!

Table Height Adjusters

I wanted to adjust my desk to be higher so that my posture would be optimised with my chair and foot rest (I am very particular). Instead of using books, which I have used in the past, I ordered some of these which look a lot smarter.

Reward System for Kids

Reusable and Storage Friendly

These are the BEST! I have about 8 different types and I let the kids choose the theme for the lesson. These are thick reusable stickers that can be used over and over again without losing their stickiness. I also use them as 'props' if I need a specific animal or item. They fold up neatly in the draw of my desk too. My kids LOVE these and so do I!!

Whiteboard

For Notes and Stickers

I use a whiteboard for putting my reward stickers on, keeping track of scores or anything else I need it for! It is small enough to stay in my draw when I don't need it.
